BirdFrame vs RobinRAW
RobinRAW and BirdFrame are both Mac apps for bird photographers, both $29.99 and both free of subscriptions and generative AI. They sound alike, but they solve different problems.
We make BirdFrame. RobinRAW's details below come from its Mac App Store listing (version 1.2, 7 October 2026), read on 27 October 2026. We haven't tested RobinRAW ourselves.
Short answer: RobinRAW helps you pick the keepers and polish them one at a time: fast culling with thumbnails zoomed to the bird, then per-photo edits and crops for Instagram. BirdFrame crops every bird in a whole album or folder in one go, from the full-size original, inside Apple Photos or as new files. If you shoot hundreds of frames per outing, they fit together: cull in one, crop the whole set in the other.

Choose RobinRAW if…
- Your bottleneck is choosing: thousands of burst frames and you want to find the sharpest quickly.
- You want to edit a handful of favourites (light, depth, denoise) and post them to Instagram.
- You work in Lightroom Classic and want your star ratings to come with the files.
Choose BirdFrame if…
- Your bottleneck is cropping: you already have your keepers, and each one needs the bird framed.
- Your photos live in Apple Photos, and you want the crops there as normal, reversible edits.
- You upload to eBird or iNaturalist and want a consistent crop of every bird, with dates and locations kept.
- You want each crop cut from the full-size original, with no downscaling, and to try it free first.
Using both
- Cull the outing in RobinRAW (or any culler) and keep the picks in a folder.
- Point BirdFrame at that folder, choose a framing, and crop every bird in one go.
- Polish the few you'll post or print in your editor of choice.

Questions
Is RobinRAW or BirdFrame better?
They do different jobs. RobinRAW is for culling (picking keepers) and polishing single photos. BirdFrame is for cropping every bird in a whole Apple Photos album or folder in one go. Many bird photographers would use both.
Can RobinRAW batch crop bird photos?
Its App Store listing describes crop presets framed on the bird (Post, Tall Post, Story and a carousel), applied in its per-photo editor. It doesn't describe cropping a whole folder in one go.
Does BirdFrame cull photos?
No. BirdFrame doesn't rate or reject frames. Cull first in the app you like, then crop the keepers with BirdFrame.
Which one is free to try?
BirdFrame is a free download that crops up to 50 photos per run with every feature; $29.99 once unlocks bigger batches. RobinRAW is a $29.99 paid download.
Crop every bird in one go, at full resolution. BirdFrame finds the birds in a whole album or folder and crops each one from the full-size original. Free for up to 50 photos per run.
